It seems like everybody is always talking about the NFL, NBA, MLB, and many other male sports associations. What about the women’s sports out there? Women have the WNBA, they play an outstanding game of volleyball, soccer, basketball, you name it, there are teams out there with women on them. So why do we mainly only here about men’s sports?
That’s the question I have always asked myself about. Why do men get all the attention when it comes to sports? Women are just as capable, or even better than the men who play sports. I mean, yeah, men are always going to be better than women in football just because women do not have an official football league. That is the only sport I think is right that men get way more attention over. If someone were to match up the Purdue Women’s soccer team against the men’s team, I bet there would be a good battle going on between them.
Just because females are said to have less muscle mass then men do, does not mean women cannot compete as well as men. But have you ever noticed that women basketball players tend to be more stocky and “thick” then most of the men’s basketball players? Men tend to be extremely tall and lanky. So I honestly think that it does not have a lot to do with how big and strong the athlete is, but more to do with the skills they have.
People may say that men’s sports are the universities’ money maker, but personally, I think women’s sports could make just about as much money if they were more recognized by the university and the outside world more than they are now.
This is one thing I want to see happen. Women are just as capable as men to be amazing athlete’s, so why can’t we have women’s sports shine more often? I do not think it’s too fair for women. They are all dedicated to their sport just like men, they are willing to give up their spare time practicing for their sport, and most importantly, they are working just as hard as men do at their practices. Hopefully one day women’s sports will be just as recognized as men sports are today!!
