BSU's Defense

Ball states record;6-0, seems like they are off to a very good start, and of course they are. One major thing they need to work on though is their run defense. The core defense to defend the run lies mainly on the linebacker core. And of there 6 guys who are on the linebacker core only one of them are above 230. If you know anything at all about D1 football you know that is a very small core. The average for a linebacker whether it be Middle or Outside is roughly 250-260,

But Coach Hoke knows this and has this almost all to plan. Instead of having giant monsters to just obliterate everything in there way they have smaller, faster, and more agile. Of course they have to have some size to them or they will just get pushed around like nothing. So Hoke is aiming for an average around 230. They are under that average which is why the run defense is struggling a little. They still have an amazing defense and can hold their own ground but there is always room for improvement.

They are a young core which, with most, still has 3 years under their belt left. So with more room to grow in both experience and size the next few years of Ball State Football will be exciting ones both on the offense and defense.
