Homecoming Rituals

Homecoming… A time where all school spirit focuses on one day for one goal, a victory for the home football team. There are many different “rituals” that come with this almost holy time for schools. One of which is the famous pep rally. This is simply where the team and the coaches come out in front of the student body and give everyone a little morale booster. Another thing that everyone thinks about when you hear homecoming is the parade that goes with it. This is probably the most special of events, simply because it gets the whole city of whatever team is playing involved. Different events of that school are also involved but of course the main event is the football team. This is a very special and cherished time for Alumni and just big supporters because they get to think back of when they were back in that position. They remember back to when they were marching down the street looking out and seeing everyone cheer for you. Another of rituals which is always a fan favorite is the Bon Fire. Some schools combine this with the pep rally, and others keep this as its own separate fun event. Usually at the bon fire it’s like another pep rally the football team gives there rant about how badly the will demolish the opposing team. Also the cheerleaders get to get the crowd going with all of their many cheers. A thing that some schools have also is the tug-of-war competition. This is more of a high school thing simply because they are usually between the different classes. What I think to be the most fun about homecoming is the whole “homecoming week” This is a week of nonstop random events to help get everyone. This week usually contains a week full of random and fun activities. Each day is a different theme usually. One day could be anything from a simple theme such as something like Disney day to just pride day where you wear all of your school colors and show off all of your school spirit. In all Homecomings, with all of its many fun and diverse rituals and events, is a time for everyone to pull together and cheer on their team to beat the rivals. If everyone gets involved and really enjoys it Homecoming can be the greatest thing to look forward to each year!

I thought the homecoming game was a lot of fun. I went to the pep rally and saw some of the parade. It was a lot different than my high school events.
