Remember way back when gas was $1.60 or when Purdue’s Drew Brees was having his worst NFL career with the chargers? Well around that time was the last time that a ranked team has come to Purdue and left the field with a loss. The Purdue football team hasn’t beat a ranked team for almost 5 years now.
It all started when the Ohio State Buckeyes beat Purdue in overtime 16-13. The sad thing is that even back then the Boilers didn’t have the best of luck when it came to kicking. The kicker missed a 37 yard field goal and started a streak of 16 straight losses to ranked teams.
The sad thing is that not many of the players know of this embarrassing statistic. When senior captain Ryan Baker was interviewed and was told the sad truth, that Purdue is 0-16 against ranked teams he responded by saying “Wow, that’s a horrible statistic, you have to be beat good teams to do well.” Which is completely true, if you want to be the best you have to beat the best.
I don’t think that this statistic should put pressure on the team, it should do the complete opposite, it should motivate the team to play a great game and come home with a win. Ohio is ranked number 12 this season, so I know it is not going to be an easy game, but I think that the team can handle it. As long as the team plays consistent, if Painter can complete a pass and get the offense going, then it wont be impossible for the Boilers to come home with a win. Oh yea I forgot if the kicker can make a field goal in this game that would be very beneficial too. I mean they are bound to end this losing streak sooner or later where better to end it then where it began.
