GO Greek!

Go Greek! You see it everywhere all over campus, on windows, posters, buses and even on t-shirts. Greek Life here at Purdue is really big, there are 45 different fraternity's and 25 different sororities on campus. Greek life at purdue is a way for students to meet new people that go to purdue, also it is a good way to make life long friends.

The way to join a fraternity is by going to rush events. Every semester there are open houses that are called rush events. Basically what that means is the house is open for anyone to stop by and just talk to people. It is a great way to meet the people who live in the house and just talk and ask questions about the house. If you like the house you come back a couple times and hopefully the brothers in the house give you a bid. A bid is when the brother's of a house give you an invitation to join their house.

Once you join a house there are many benefits to it. Fraternity's and sororities are typically stereotyped as places for people to go and drink and party. It is true that fraternities do host parties on occasion, however it's more than that. Fraternities and sororities often do community service projects, and they hold philanthropy events, which typically involves raising money for some type of non-profit organization. Another good thing about going greek is all the people that you meet. It is the easiest way to meet new people and make friends.

I strongly encourage anyone who has an interest in greek life to check it out. Just go to the houses with an open mind and meet people. I guarantee that you will find someone who shares the same interests as you. So check it out, you just might be surprised.

I completely agree with you that everyone should keep an open mind about going Greek. I did it this semester, which is my first semester, and I don't know where I would be without it. The girls keep me on track with school and the activities with the house keep me so busy and involved. Unless you have something else that you are planning on getting on getting involved in, I would give it a chance. A heavy work load with school, trying to maintain a job, along with going Greek may get a little rough but otherwise it is really great to keep you busy and active!
