Purdue vs. Michigan State

This week our Boilermakers head to East Lansing to take on the Spartans of Michigan State. Purdue is coming off a big win against Michigan while the Spartans were victorious in a come from behind victory against Wisconsin.

All you really need to know about the Spartans is Javon Ringer. Ringer is MSU’s senior running back who is leading the Big Ten in touchdowns (18) and rushing yards (1,427). Purdue, on the other hand, has the conference’s worst run defense surrendering 175 yards per game. This makes for a bad combination. I look for Ringer to run all over the Boilermakers with at least one score and a hundred yards.

However, MSU’s run defense is nothing to brag about either. The defensive unit checks in at tenth in the Big Ten in rush defense, giving up 152 yards a game. I look for Cory Sheets to have another big day and the possibility of the Boilers putting up some big points. Remember the starting quarterback position is in the air and Coach Tiller must decide between Justin Siller and Curtis Painter. If Siller is named the starter, I look for the Boilers to have a big day offensively. Siller reminds me of another quarterback in the Big Ten in Terrelle Pryor of “The” Ohio State University. When Michigan St. played the Buckeyes a couple of weeks ago Pryor had a field day and the Spartans surrendered 45 points. If Siller is under center on Saturday the Boilers could have similar success. However, if Painter is named the starter I don’t look for the Boilers to do too much. He probably won’t be playing at 100 percent and even if he is he just isn’t the offensive weapon that Siller is.

Overall I think this will be a tough game for the Boilers, but I think we can put up a fight. Michigan St. is not that good, but with the game being on the road I look for the Boilers losing streak against ranked teams to extend to 19 games. Prediction: MSU 27-Purdue 17
