Big Ten Volleyball

The Big Ten volleyball started this past week on Wednesday, September 22. Let’s look at the stats thus far in the season before the Big Ten starts to be in action full time. There are two Big Ten teams that are undefeated as of right now. Penn State (12-0) and Michigan (12-0), both teams are obviously on a 12 game winning streak. Purude University Stands in the 3rd place spot with a record so far of 11-1. They are on a 7 game winning streak. Minnesota and Wisconsin are both at a record of 10-2. Illinois has a record of 9-2,and Ohio State’s record is 9-3. Illinois lost two on the road and Ohio State has lost one on the road. Michigan, Indiana, and Iowa all stand at 8-4 in the pre-Big Ten season. Northwestern stands in last place with a record of 6-5.
This week started off with #21 Michigan at Ohio State. This was one of the games that was broadcasted on the Big Ten network. The Wolverines took the match in three sets, leaving the Buckeyes with a loss on home soil. The 26th is a big day for the Women’s Big Ten Volleyball teams. Illinois is coming to Hoosier territory hoping to keep their winning streak of four matches so far. Minnesota Gophers are hosting Northwestern at their place. Ohio State is entering into Michigan territory, after their loss to Michigan on Tuesday. But this time they are competing against Michigan State Spartans. The Buckeyes are hoping to come back to get revenge of the loss against Michigan Wolverines. #19 Purdue Boilermakers are at #1 Penn State, hoping to start off the Big Ten season with an amazing win over the Nittany Lions. Wisconsin, ranked #18, is facing the Iowa Hawkeyes at the Iowa. All of these games are starting at 7 p.m. on Friday.
On Saturday, there are three four volleyball games, one of which will be on the Big Ten Network. Michigan at Michigan State will be televised on the station at 6:30 p.m. The other three games are Northwestern at Iowa, #19 Purdue at Indiana, and #18 Wisconsin at #12 Minnesota. All play starts at 7 p.m. On Sunday there is only one game at 1 p.m., and it is #20 Illinois at #1 Penn State.
Hopefully there will be a lot of stiff competition out there this week in women’s volleyball. The best type of volleyball game to watch is one that can keep a good volley going and when it ends, it is because the team is all over the place chasing the ball and not in their right positions. The game to watch this week seems to be on Saturday when #18 Wisconsin goes against #12 Minnesota.
I am going to bring updates and high lights of some of these games this weekend.
